Dr Barrie completed his first degree in Biomedical Science and subsequently obtained his medical degree in 2008. He completed speciality training in Medical Oncology in Edinburgh in 2018, with some time spent at the Beatson Cancer Centre.
He specialises in the drug treatment of thoracic cancers and Cancers of Unknown primary with a specialist interest in the use of Immunotherapy and targeted therapies. He is the principal investigator on several drug trials in advanced lung cancer.
In addition to his clinical role he is active in medical education and is a educational and clinical supervisor for medical oncology trainees.
