Dr Ioannis Koutsavlis graduated from the University of Athens (Greece) and completed his early medical training in Scotland, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Subsequently, he entered the South East Scotland haematology training programme and obtained his degree in Haematology in 2018. Dr Koutsavlis became a Consultant Haematologist in early 2019 having worked for NHS Fife and continued his career in Edinburgh. Since 2020, he has been a Consultant Haematologist in NHS Lothian, based at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, Western General and St John’s Hospitals.
He is experienced in the management of Haematological Malignancies and has a role in the care of inpatients undergoing autologous bone marrow transplant in the South East of Scotland region. He has particular interest in Myeloproliferative neoplasms where he runs a dedicated clinic at the Western General Hospital, and is a principal investigator for relevant clinical trials.
He has been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and assist as a tutor at the university of Edinburgh.
