Ward 7
Overview
We are a friendly day treatment unit with 6 rooms and 23 chairs for ambulatory care which operates 7 days a week. The unit is open from 8:00am to 8:00pm and is staffed with different shift patterns/start and finishing times. We treat approximately 45 patients per day with each staff member having a patient caseload. We see patients with various haematological malignancies and disorders and we support each patient’s full cancer journey from diagnosis to remission as well as caring for palliative patients. Most of our patient care is outpatient which include systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT), blood product transfusions, iron infusions and bisphosphonates. We also treat outpatient autologous stem cell transplants and follow up care of allogeneic stem cell transplants. Our Clinical nurse specialist also see patients to start off their inpatient journey. We deliver a high standard of nursing care often caring for vulnerable patients with lowered immune systems. We also do minor procedures such as CVAD removal/insertion, Bone Marrow Biopsies, venesections, and lumbar punctures.
We have a friendly volunteer service who will offer you lunch and light refreshments throughout the day.
We are a dynamic multi site unit. In addition to ward 7 we have a satellite unit at East Lothian community Hospital. This small nurse lead unit offers blood product support, venesections and bisphosphonates infusions.
Whilst delivering high quality care is essential, the heart of ward 7 is in providing holistic care to patients, recognising each persons individual needs and creating an environment which makes patients feel supported, cared for and truly valued.
We are a busy unit with and request that patients try wherever possible to stick to their allotted appointment time.
Visiting Hours
We don’t allow visitors for safety reasons. We appreciate that there can be situations when this is not ideal so patients can however be accompanied by someone on their first visit or unless pre-arranged with the nurse in charge.
