Ward 8 is Edinburgh’s Haematology Cancer Centre, it offers a comprehensive diagnostic treatment service for patients with a wide variety of blood disorders and cancers of the blood and lymphatic system, these include leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma.

The specialised nursing team has unique expertise in providing supportive care and chemotherapy to patients with hematological malignancies facilitating innovative treatment plans that are tailored to what best suits the patient, these include short to intense regimes of chemotherapy, antibody therapy and bone marrow transplantation regimes.

Ward 8 is a recognised specialist centre for stem cell transplant and has received international accreditation for the adult stem cell transplant program by JACIE (Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT (Europe).

In addition, ward 8 is currently preparing to facilitate its first CAR-T cell therapy (cell chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy) following approval by JACIE to do so.

The centre has recently been rebuilt, improving on the previous ward facilities. This has enabled a major service redesign to upgrade the ward space into 19 single patient rooms.

Each room is equipped with an ensuite toilet /shower room, flat screen TV and a reclining chair. Free Wifi is available throughout the ward. In addition, complimentary therapies are available in the ward daily.

For those patients who need a family member to stay, a number of the rooms are equipped with a pull-down bed. There is also a designated relative’s room which also has an ensuite toilet/shower room and fold out bed
